MarKat Ranch is the result of a life long dream to breed, raise and sell quality horses. While we are not yet located in the facility of our dreams, the first part, to breed quality horses, has become a reality.

I am always asked about the ranch name and it is often mispronounced. It is the combination of my mother's name, Mary, and mine, Katherine. My mom lived with me several years. She and my dad made possible the place that I currently have so it seemed right to include her when naming the ranch.

Horses have been a part of my life, it seems like forever. However, I became quite taken with the Morgan when I met a man named Hap Crowl who owned a beautiful horse nicknamed Champ.The die was cast. I had to have one. I bought my first Morgan from Hap and was sold on the breed.

My first Morgan, D-Singer,(aka)Pal has been a special part of my life for over 18 years. We have ridden many miles together and then hit the show ring. He is truly a versatile Morgan.

I have always enjoyed beauty, brains and versatility of the Morgan. Approximately, 14 years ago I purchased a young horse from Delman and Lillian Smith of SkyRidge Morgan's in Sonoma. We immediately became friends. Over the years I had the opportunity to learn many things from these seasoned breedeers and competitors.When they lost their stallion, UVM Jefferson, the time seemed right. I, with the assistance of the Smiths jumped in with both feet looking for the right herd stallion and broodmares to begin my dream. My desire is to follow a similar path set by the Smiths in breeding and selling quality, government style Morgan horses that trace back to Tutor, the original herd sire for the Smiths.

You will find that all the horse owned by MarKat ultimately follow that path. Lady Prosecutor and Tiger Lilly are sired by the last two stallions owned by SkyRidge.

Pembroke stood at SkyRidge for his first two years in California. This allowed me to get my feet wet in the breeding business under the guidance of Delman Smith. Both Del and Lil assisted me, taught me, and mentored me during that time. I am thankful that they were there to get me started on the right track.

Pembroke will stand at Bishop Lane Farm in Penngrove, CA. for the 2007 season.
