Pem is the product of the breeding program of the University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm. The University took over the breeding program for the US government which had a long established program of breeding for the park service and other gavernment agencies including the military.
Horses of Pem's line are known as government bred or of government breeding.
Pem was sired by UVM WATCHMAN out of UVM ENVY in 1984. Every year the University designates a foal as a raffle foal to support their program. Pem was that foal in 1984. When he was 5 he was purchased by Jane Cookson of Greenwood Farm in Vermont who had a mare to breed. She and her daughter, Mary Robinson, selectively showed and bred him on the east coast. When Jane moved to Victor, Montana, Pem moved with her.
Pem was purchased by MarKat Morgan's in the spring of 2004 to become the foundation sire for the ranch. It was love at first sight when we went to pick him up in Montana.
Pem is Mister Personality. He is a gentleman breeder, is a delight to ride and is trainable and versatile. He is 15 hands and continues to have great hock action, a free flowing trot and a beautiful canter. These are traits that he passes on to his get.
Both live cover and AI are available to select outside mares. |
